A new home, old furniture, new family and an old friend

January was a busy month.

First up was the delivery of our possessions from Australia.  We'd moved in to our new apartment before Christmas under the ill informed notion that our shipping container was arriving at the same time.  For three weeks we camped out with our new bed, TV and patio chairs as our only furniture and with just enough equipment in the kitchen to cook a meal; if you couldn't cook it in a wok, we couldn't have it!  Thankfully we were reunited with our worldly goods in early January and were able to settle in to our new home properly.

Houston's second largest park is situated across the road from our building, which in addition to it's picnic areas and lake complete with paddle boats, it also boasts a golf course, Japanese Gardens, an outdoor theatre and a zoo!  After exploring it we excitedly committed to jogging there in the mornings. The number of times we've jogged there so far?  Zero.  Well its been cold!

Next up we expanded our family with the adoption of a 9 month old kitty called Binky.  He's terribly cute and ultra friendly and has charmed the pants off all of our guests and the pet sitters.  Basically he just wants as much attention as possible, the little tart!

Towards the end of January we had a our first guest stay for the weekend, Dan Vandaevere. Being a first time visitor to Houston we spent some time thinking about things to do which he'd find fun or were unique to Houston.  This included eating at Houston's (a restaurant famous for ribs), visiting the Kennedy Space Centre, dinner at a Brazilian Churasscaria (apparently there's not much in the way of good meat in Singapore), Barcadia (a funky pub filled with old school arcade machines), a piano duelling bar, lots of alcohol and shopping for his girlfriend, Karen (he's a keeper!).  A good weekend was had by all.  Thanks for visiting, Dan!

It's just a little one!

We'd planned to spend the last weekend of January in Texas Hill Country visiting friends but Nat hurt her neck and it was rescheduled for later date.  A restful weekend after a crazy month was probably not a bad idea though!
